Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the team enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
